Coaching Staff

RJ Zeigler

Owner / General Manager

Potomac Patriots

R.J. Zeigler’s passion for developing hockey players in this area stems from his own personal roots in northern Virginia.  As a young player he grew up playing youth hockey in the D.C. area before moving on to captain the Washington Junior Capitals.  R.J. quickly chose to pursue coaching while in college.

He accepted the Head Coach position for a young GMU program playing in the ACHA.  His success helping to develop that program led to a head coach position with the Virginia Statesmen.  In his first season coaching Junior Hockey he led his team to the USA Hockey Nationals.  After his two seasons with the Statesmen the organization ceased operations in 2007.  For the next year R.J. focused solely on developing the Tier II program in his home facility, the Prince William Ice Center.

Coach Zeigler then joined the Virginia Express in the Spring of 2008.  His dedication to the organization quickly moved him through the ranks and by the Fall of that same year he had taken over has Head Coach of the Express’ Junior “B” team.  In January of 2009 he added the G.M. responsibilities.  His goal, one that is consistent with the founder of the Virginia Express (and now the Potomac Patriots), is to develop hockey players in an effort to move them to the next level.  For every player and family that could be different; College, higher level junior, or Prep School.

Whatever the desired path is Coach Zeigler commits himself to assisting his players in achieving their goals.  In 2010 RJ Zeigler and Bill Hutzler formed the Potomac Patriots.

Coach Zeigler has since served as GM and Head Coach of the Potomac Patriots until 2014.  At that time he began developing plans to unite all of the youth hockey at the Prince William Ice Center under one umbrella.  In 2015 that vision became a reality.  RJ now serves as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Potomac Patriots.
